Renault 5 Gordini Turbo
The Renault 5 Gordini Turbo was launched in the UK in 1982. It featured a modified version of the crossflow "Alpine" engine as fitted to the Gordini Atmo, but with a lower compression ratio (8.5:1), different pistons and a modified camshaft profile. The end result of this was a power increase from 93bhp to 110bhp and a corresponding performance improvement.
The car also had new alloy wheels, a revised gearbox and disc brakes all round. It was called the Alpine Turbo in France, but had to be called the "Gordini Turbo" in the UK - Sunbeam already had the rights to the "Alpine" name.
